This two day workshop class will focus on capturing the qualities of the beautiful local scenery of our area in four small paintings. Each morning and afternoon session will begin with a demonstration of how to paint the subjects (ex. ocean, hills, fog) followed by individual help and further spot demonstrations as necessary throughout the weekend. This is a focus class for all levels working in any water-based media and pastel.

Please note that the class will run from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm so students can have a break for lunch.

How to Paint Water and Reflections

Reflections are an important part of many landscape, seascape and still life painting compositions. Water, glass, and shiny objects all have their own way of reflecting other adjacent subjects, and learning how to handle and paint these will be the focus of this class. You will discover the fundamentals of how subjects are reflected in the various types of flowing and still water situations and also in shiny or reflective surfaces. You will learn how to approach painting the various reflections in different media, including the color mixtures necessary for painting these effects.

This is a focus class for all levels working in any water-based media and pastel, including watercolor, acrylic, gouache, water-based oils and pastel.

About the Instructor

Tricia Reichert obtained her formal teaching credentials from Battersea College, University of London. Although she had always been keenly interested in art, most of her artistic expressions were made through her chosen major of Home Economics and minor of Textile Art. When more time became available, Tricia developed her true passion for art and for the past twenty seven years has studied and practiced drawing and painting in a wide variety of media. She specializes in the art of portraiture in pastel and watercolor. Her other areas of expertise and interest include many forms of printmaking and figurative sculpture. Tricia also teaches a wide range of classes, workshops and individual students. In teaching, she uses her broad experience and highly developed, natural teaching ability to present all material and explanations in the most accessible way.

“I believe that in art, as in writing, a developed vocabulary and an understanding of grammar are necessary fundamental requirements for self expression. In art the vocabulary could be attributed to the use of the materials, while the grammar may be considered the design and composition of the finished work. My aim as an art teacher is always to devise and present the fundamental vocabulary and grammar of art related skills, (in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking) in ways that make them accessible and easy to understand”.
